IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Ronald Weasley
Age: 17
Canon Point: Book 6; Right after his birthday and he's been poisoned!
Species: Human Wizard
Gender: Male
Orientation: Straight. He's very much a typical awkward teen, but it's pretty clear in canon that he likes girls. At the point that he's being pulled from he's just gotten out of a relationship with one girl and is still not recognizing his feelings for Hermione.
History: Ron has never lived much of a privileged life. He grew up in a rather large family (he was six out of seven if that helps you picture things), so things were always a little tight around his home but they managed (THEY DIDN'T HAVE MUCH MONEY BUT THEY MADE UP FOR THAT WITH LOOOOOOVE). Like everyone in his family he began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry starting at the age of eleven, it was there that his life changed more than he ever could know. If it weren't for the fact that he befriended the legendary Harry Potter he may have been able to squeak by in school without much issue. Sure he might have been picked on like any child, but things would have been a little more normal. But as it stood he never really had a chance.
Once at Hogwarts he was sorted into Gryffindor, friendship with the Potter boy blossoming even more and leading to adventure after adventure. To save time and brain power on everyone's behalf, I'll provide this link that outlines all the IMPORTANT BITS. Got it? Great!
Basically this year for him has been hell. He's dealing with typical and not so typical teenage problems, ranging from jealousy to problems with girls. When his birthday rolls around things are still looking crappy for the guy, so naturally when he finds a box of chocolates he assumes they are meant for him. They are not, in fact they are laced with a strong love potion mean for Harry. Harry being the stand up guy that he is, takes Ron to Professor Slughorn's office for an antidote, but then when they start to drink some mead he is POISONED! Blah blah, Harry saves his life and Ron ends up in the hospital wing, recuperating and feigning sleep when his now former girlfriend tries to stop by to see him. AND THERE YOU HAVE HIM! STRAIGHT FROM A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE!
Appearance:
Ron is Ron. He's a little on the taller side, has fiery ginger hair and is brilliant at making awful facial expressions. But really, he's not a bad looking guy just a little awkward. AS IF YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE.
Personality:
Ron is as loyal as they come. He would do almost anything for his friends and does tend to show many of the brave and selfless traits that a typical Gryffindor is associated with. He tends to be a little more laid back about things, the guy that is more likely to make a wisecrack or say something sarcastic than he is something serious. Of course, that's not always a good thing, seeing as Ron doesn't necessarily have a filter when it comes to such things. More than once the words that have come out of his mouth have been too blunt or just outright hurtful, even if that wasn't really the intent. In comparison to his friends he's very immature, insensitive and on at least one occasion his emotional range has been compared to that of a teaspoon. That being said, he does tend to offer that bit of comic relief to people.
It seems that his attitude towards most things (i.e. the wisecracking and the slightly sardonic tone he takes on at times) stems from quite a great deal of insecurity. Since a very young age, he's been very self-conscious about his family's poverty. Most of Ron's personal items have been hand-me-downs, possessions that used to belong to his older siblings. As it is, he feels a great deal of pressure about his own magical abilities, feeling that he needs to hold up the legacy that he's been overshadowed by. All of this, of course, leads to feelings like being second-best in all that he does. It's really all a very sensitive topic for him. While not the brightest crayon in the box, he certainly does his best (even though he'd rather slack off when it comes to doing real work). While smart enough, he never really was all that motivated to do his coursework and would have much preferred that someone else hand him the answers.
He can be moody and argumentative more often than is probably good for him, especially when paired with the temper that the boy has on him. While definitely the product of a wizarding family and upbringing, he's not afraid to throw down the wand and try to pummel the ever loving crap out of someone if provoked. Though this tends to happen more when someone he cares about is being insulted, he's got to stand up for something.
In addition to adventuring, he's got two great passions in his life: Quidditch and food. He could spend all day talking to someone about his beloved Chudley Cannons, which would be fine and dandy so long as you weren't talking to him at the dinner table. He does enjoy his food a great deal, so much that he seems to have difficulty not stuffing his mouth full (and then trying to talk around it).
All in all he's not a bad guy to have around, just so long as he's in a good mood. He can certainly sulk with the best of them.
Abilites: HE IS A WIZARD????? I mean, he'll just be a regular guy at first, but he's pretty decent with magic. He's definitely better than he used to be.
Other:
STRENGTHS: Ron is decent as far as his magical skills go. I would say he's no wizard, but hahaha, he totally is. He's at least able to do the basics by this time and because of his training with Dumbledore's Army he may even be just a bit more advanced than the average wizard of his age. By this point he's able to execute the Patronus spell, which is rather advanced and difficult. He's definitely able to hold his own in a battle, he is capable of thinking on his feet and sometimes thinking out of the box.
As mentioned before, he's got a very loyal streak in him and he goes to great lengths to protect his friends; even when it puts his own safety at risk.
While not always considered one of the great thinkers of his time, he does show a great deal of knowledge and talent when it comes to tactics; demonstrated by his skill when it comes to Wizard's Chess.
WEAKNESSES: While Ron is a talented individual, sometimes his abilities waver because of his lack of confidence. As stated above, he does have a bit of a temper on him which is not always beneficial.
He suffers from arachnophobia, which sometimes can cripple his abilities when he comes face to face with those eight-legged little monsters.
Even though he's laid back you can tell he's a product of the wizarding world, something demonstrated by the way that he reacts when certain conventions are not upheld (as an example: Lupin was peachy keen until Ron found out he was a werewolf, then it was like AH NO GTFO).
Sometimes his insecurity is more of an issue than he lets on, he will more than likely become moody if an issue is pressed and may even distance himself something isn't going his way.
SAMPLES
First Person:
AUDIO
[Hello dear Holly Heights! Have one rather annoyed boy on the other end of the telephone. Not that he knew it was called that, but no matter. At least he sounds as if he's trying to stay collected and isn't shouting into the communicator.]
All right, I've figured out this isn't some kind of joke. Could someone at least tell me where I am and how to get back? I was kind of doing something important before I got here, so it'd probably be best if I went back to finish it.
[There's a pause and an intake of breath before he speaks again.]
And could someone tell me what this bloody thing is that I'm talking into? There's hardly anything about it that makes sense and it doesn't look like any sort of mug--
[Wait, wait. Usage of the word 'muggle' perhaps wasn't the greatest idea.]
--doesn't look like any sort of thing I've ever seen.
[With that there's a bit of fumbling and some words uttered under his breath before the feed shuts off.]
Third Person:
"Bloody hell..."
Those were the first words uttered from Ron's mouth as he sat up in that lawn chair, hand coming to his forehead as he shielded his eyes from the sun. There was a lasting look of confusion as he stared out onto the lawn, cautiously bringing himself up to his feet while adjusting the hem of his sweater. He took a moment to collect himself, trying to remember what he'd been doing--
The hospital wing! He'd been recovering, right? That meant...he jumped up to his feet rather suddenly, spinning around and finally taking in his whereabouts. This wasn't familiar in the least bit, all the houses and the lawns...what was this place? It was almost automatic after that, that fumble into his pocket to check for his wand, to make sure it wasn't broken. Like hell he wanted to be stuck in a strange place with a backfiring wand.
Gone? How in the hell could it be gone? He fumbled at his other pockets, panic setting in more and more on his face. Now what was he supposed to do? He finally took a breath, bringing his hand up to pull back through his hair. No sense in losing your head Ron, not yet. For all he knew he was still laid up in the hospital wing and this was all some sort of demented dream. Ron steeling himself and straightening up, he made his decision to move.
No point in standing around and waiting for someone to come along, it could be ages before anyone found him. He could be hungry and raving mad by that time-- he stopped himself, taking in a breath and chuckling to himself, being hungry in a dream of all the things to be worried about. He'd yet to notice the keys in his pocket, but all in due time.
He took that first faltering step, look of determination sweeping over his face. He had friends to find. And failing that, well, he wasn't really sure...but he would figure it out, eventually. After all, it was a dream wasn't it?
